UltraThin: Pre-Credor GoldFeather
Seiko GoldFeather: Rare & Important Pre-Credor
WHY WE LOVE IT? Because it is a highly collectible watch from a time when a) Seiko & Citizen were both racing towards the dominant position in Japan -- and they were at par back then, if not Citizen was slightly in front -- and b) they were learning and catching-up to the Swiss watch-industry and c) Seiko started with that watch what in 1974 became Credor. (Was it their first ever watch made of solid gold?) An important artefact of horological-history and in a wonderful condition.
The GoldFeather is today available as a Credor re-issue and with a reason, as it was a very important watch in the history of Seiko: the worlds thinnest 3-hands-watch in 1960 and a true horological innovation from Far East. And Seiko puts it like that:
"With its lightness and elegance, the goal was to create the pinnacle of dress watches. GoldFeather"
The GoldFeather was also the most expensive top-model in the 1960-Seiko offerings. Obviously it is not only an important and collectible watch but also a rare one and especially in 18K -- the Goldfeather was made in steel and 14K-goldplated (priced JPY12'000 in 1960) and in solid 18K, like this one. The price of the 18K-variant was JPY23'000. Needless to point out the solid-gold variant was not only the most expensive but also the rarest; with the fact that many were smelted in the last decades further reducing the existent examples of this important top-model.
This exciting example was serviced. It is running precise and reliable.
