Birch-Finish by Ponti Gennari: Round Piaget Emperador, Polo

Piaget Emperador: Ponti Gennari Monochrome Birch-Finish / Palace-Decor, Rare Polo-Predecessor

CHF 19,000

WHY WE LOVE IT? White Birch-Emperador: It is the predecessor of the iconic Piaget Polo with the same bracelet-system, by the same designer and in higher quality. And as everything is handmade and unique.

The Ponti Gennari- / Piaget-Signature-Finishing on a round (31.5mm) and rare Emperador -- rare in general but exceedingly rare in heavy 18K-whitegold. This special watch was made in 1977 by Piaget and runs on the manual cal9P. Needless to point out it is the predecessor of the celebrated and iconic Piaget Polo that was presented in 1979 -- and both were designed by Jean-Claude Gueit for Piaget. And both use the same bracelet-system, although the Polo has every 2nd link elongated to 6mm: so alternating between 3 and 6mm in the Piaget Polo instead of 3mm for every element as in the Piaget Emperor. Obviously, this watch is not only of higher quality than the iconic Polo as more work by goldsmith is necessary and the finishing is much more manufacturing by an artisan but it was also made in a much lower quantity -- we were informed that less than 20 pieces of this model were made. On top: instead of the round Polo 7661 (Jumbo) it uses a mechanical movement (not a quartz cal7P like the Polo), its case is a bit smaller in diameter but because its bracelet is more massive, it is even heavier than the Jumbo-Polo.

The serviced manual caliber Piaget 9P works precise and reliable and the watch appears to be beautiful and without stretch or significant signs of use and seems to be unpolished, also. The substantial weight of >150g, the length of >190mm in total (the wrist on the photos is 180mm) and its condition make it a probably unique piece today.

Notabene: There is no brand-print on the dial and you might assume it was rubbed off. But no, there never was one as Piaget was brave enough to make watches, that everyone immediately thinks are Piaget. At a time, when Piaget was the No. 1, the best: #makePiagetGreatAgain
