Important Piaget: 1st Automatic Altiplano, Sector

Piaget Altiplano 1st cal12P: UltraThin, Sector & Micro-Rotor, Alain Delon

CHF 10,500

WHY WE LOVE IT? Because it is a first; the earliest 12P-powered Piaget I know (and I know some) and thus the ancestor of any other Automatic-Altiplano -- the starting point, the 1st -- and even more special: in whitegold and exactly the same reference worn by Alain Delon in the 1960s. A Piaget-Museum timepiece.

We can date this Piaget Altiplano to late 1959 or early 1960; for sure before 1961 -- and this makes it one of the first Piaget at all using the record-thin cal12P: ref12103. The first reference making use of the cal12P and the important Piaget that was worn by Alain Delon -- an important friend of the brand. Our watch has the serial number #4 and I think we can take the risk to call it the first ever cal12P in a whitegold-case, given that just 10 - 15% of the production was in 18K-whitegold in the early 1960s.

See the direct comparison of the ref12103 he owned (with the beautiful Clous-de-Paris dial) and ours. The dial is different, yes. But everything else is exactly the same. And the crosshair-dial was used initially with the cal12P as shown in the 1960-magazine-advertising, while the Clous-de-Paris-dial that was owned by Alain Delon was introduced later in the mid-1960s.

So, what we can offer here is one of the first Piaget (the 4th) housing the important and long-term world-record-thin automatic movement: cal12P and probably the first in whitegold. It is for sure pre-1961 and in all aspects original. The fact that Alain Delon owned the same reference is adding further relevance to it.

Now, even more we can present it with the 18K whitegold Piaget-buckle and in amazing condition -- an important horological artefact; a relevant watch in the history of the brand from La-Cote-Aux-Fees; a museum-worthy & important timepiece and a beautiful, wearable and timeless watch, also. Delivered with box, Piaget-strap and 18K-whitegold buckle, of course -- next to two custom-made straps that we fitted to this important classic.
