#SameOrDifferent: Ebel vs Cartier

Tuesday, May 5, 2020

This is our series: Same or Different. All Is Relative, Isnt It?

We found an unusual and obviously rare Ebel pocket watch made in 1970s in La-Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland from 18K White Gold. The design is the same as the popular Cartier Jumbo Gondole and the dimensions are as well exactly the same.

But even more interesting: the movement is a manual 17 jewels caliber made by Adolph Schild AS -- exactly the same one used in Cartier Gondole.

The similarities are just a little surprise when taken into account, that Ebel produced the today-sought after Cartiers from the early 1970s in their manufacture in La-Chaux-de-Fonds.

Now, it is said the White Gold Cartier Jumbo Gondole was made in single digit quantities. The quantities of such an White Gold Ebel pocket watch is not to determine but I would guess as well single digit numbers.
