Rare Ditisheim, Paul Platinum Pocketwatch, London Goldsmiths: Coat of Arms Prince of Wales

Paul Ditisheim Edward, Prince of Wales: DoubleSigned Two-Tone Pocketwatch for Goldsmiths & Silversmiths, London

CHF 9,500

WHY WE LOVE IT: Produced approx 1910, eventually for the investiture (1911) of Edward, Prince of Wales (Edward, Duke of Windsor & King Edward VIII of the British Empire from 1936ff) in Wales showing his new (!) coat of arms, the The Red Dragon, or Y Ddraig Goch of Wales.

Attributed to Paul Ditisheim, 1905/1910 (approx) in a platinum case (stamped "PD", "Platine Pur", serial 50'9XX) with a minimalistic and iconic dial marked "The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. Ltd., 112 Regent Street (London) over the high-quality movement marked "Grand Prix Paris 1900".

Comparable double-signed pocketwatches by Paul Ditisheim for the important London-based retailer "Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. Ltd." have been auctioned at Christies (2005) and Sothebys (2015) some time ago -- although not in a very special platinum-case and without the crest & historical relation.
