EmailWHY WE LOVE IT? Very rare and inspiring watch-set designed by Yaacov Agam in mystery-watch style, encased in black scratch-resistant ceramic: lovely.
It was made in a limited edition of just 100pcs in 1989 and was -- next to the USD18'000-priced Times5-watch designed by Andy Warhol for Movados Artist-Series -- the most expensive Movado with its price of USD20'000 for the boxed set of two wristwatches, one pocketwatch and one clock. The quartz-movements are made by ETA and so rather common, but the clou are the two glass-discs with the Op-Art figures by Agam, showing the time: hour & minutes and thereby creating new abstract figures all the time.
The cases are special and were made from scratch resistant (and back-then probably quite expensive) black ceramic. Here and there it is said these watches are from plain steel and black PVD-coated but this is not correct: it is a ceramic-alloy, probably very similar to the metallic-ceramic used for the Omega Cermet -- almost as hard as a diamond: 2'000 Vickers.
The series comes with the original red big case and the acryl-cases and Agam-signed metal-stands. All watches are numbered and bear the same (!) number -- so an original set and not combined aftermarket. Included is the 1989-Movado catalogue & pricelist and the original magazine-ad from 1989 marketing the Agam-Movado collaboration.
The two wristwatches appear to be unworn and have their caseback sticker still in place.
