An amazing watch and for a reason nick-named Piaget Emperador / Cesar / Czar / Kaiser / King of Kings: valuable weight, highest quality and peak-art of goldsmithing (Piaget Credor made by Ponti Gennari) and the most contrasting combinations of reflective multi-faceted gold, bright sparkling diamonds and a light-catching Onyx-dial.
All set up in the classic watch-size of 34mm with a tapering bracelet, that was the model for the 1979-presented and even today-celebrated Piaget Polo (the Polo is less sophisticated finished and every 2nd link is elongated -- that is it: Polo == Emperador-- or put the other way around: Emperador == Polo++). The dimensions were at all the model for the Jumbo Polo ref7661 and -- while the Polo was being advertised as the most expensive watch -- also for the "cheapest" Swiss watch, the Swatch: exactly the same size and dimensions and yes, Hayek has the chuzpe to do exactly that.
The Emperador ref12336 was offered with an ultra-thin automatic-movement cal12P and 36 impressive highest quality-diamonds painstakingly integrated on the bezel -- and they were necessary to make up the contrast and optical effect of this outstanding watch. Piaget understood very well: there is a haptical dimension and an optical -- the haptical excellence is created by highest quality goldsmithing and the weight of the material: gold; and the optical excellence by the creation and the use of contrasts: the change of surfaces, the alternation between bright and dark.
At Bonhams one (bottom-right, made in 1976) was sold for >USD36'000 (here: *klikk) but only with an altered case and removed diamonds. With all correct and unmanipulated case & diamonds they might be worth a bit more, but you get tremendous value and something that is not done like that today anymore, unfortunately.
